About Us - Girls and Women Foundation Liberia

Our Story

The Girls and Women Foundation Liberia (GWOFO-Liberia) was founded on June 2, 2014, in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, by visionary Mother Rosetta Victory Williams. Founded under the Kwa language banner Yonnohgbaojue-Podeh ("Girl Child is Beneficial"), we are a national feminist grassroots advocacy organization, apolitical and non-profit, dedicated to positive social change.

Since our inception, we have grown from a local initiative to a national movement with headquarters in Zwedru and active sub-chapters across all 15 counties of Liberia. Our work is driven by a deep commitment to see girls and women engaged in advocacy campaigns on issues affecting their well-being, collaborating with technocrats, policymakers, and rights-based groups.

We have established ourselves as a major force advocating for sweeping changes to put more women in leadership positions, increase education and economic opportunities, and fight against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and discrimination.

Our Mission

To network through advocacy campaigns and social justice on issues affecting girls, women, and other marginalized people. We promote gender equity, equality, transparency, and accountability through policymakers to effect positive societal change.

Our Vision

We envisage a saved and healthiest environment for girls and women by 2040 in Liberia, achieved through advocacy for policy reform, social justice, gender equality, inclusion, empowerment, transparency, and accountability for all.
